Emergency Generators

Automatic Transfer Switches

Everyday people around the world are experiencing power interruption. It can be very frustrating that sometimes tasks that are supposed to be accomplished in just one day are being delayed due to this unexpected event. Most big companies have already found a solution for this problem by installing standby backup generators. These types of generators have automatic transfer switches, which turn the backup power on right away once there is a power outage, and turn it off right away once the power is back. You do not have to worry anymore about your frozen meat in the fridge at home being spoiled due to a blackout especially when you are in the middle of your vacation. Alternatively, should you be worried about your appliances being damaged due to power interruption because the power will be automatically available to prevent it from being short circuited or other damages the blackout may cause.

Automatic transfer switches are able to sense when the utility power is interrupted and it starts up the generator right away once the power remains undetected. Usually it will produce full power in about five to ten seconds by disconnecting the load from the utility and then connect it to the standby generator thus restoring power to the load. After that, it will continue monitoring the utility power whether it is still unavailable.

Once the power is restored, it will automatically switch the load from generator back to the utility. It will then cool down and will shut down on its own once the utility is up and running and the generator is disconnected. This way, damages and interruptions will be avoided. As for special events, the visitors at all will feel little or no interruption. You see, whether you live in a place where many natural calamities regularly occur, you can still stay calm and uninterrupted knowing that you will have an almost smooth power supply.

There are various types of automatic transfer switches such as open transition, bypass isolation and momentary closed. Each of them has specific features and capabilities so it always helps to review on each of them carefully before deciding which one to use and which may be effective for your specific setup.
